Sometimes the side roads are the best places to find hidden food truck gems! The Crispy Spud (7620 Highway 15 near Carleton Place) serves a fantastic smoked meat sandwich, and the prices are reasonable. Everything is made to order here, so plan for a roughly 20-minute wait to receive your order, but don’t worry, it will be worth the wait. Also check out Pat’s Country Burgers and Fries near Ashton.

Carleton Place

A visit to Carleton Place is a historic architectural experience, and this small town located only 20 minutes from the City of Ottawa, is home to a number of heritage landmarks. For some outdoor activity, visit Riverside Park, home of the Carleton Place Canoe Club, the oldest continually operating canoe club in Canada (celebrating 125 years in 2018). Bordered by the Mississippi River, Riverside Park is the perfect location to set off on a paddle by canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard.
