Lanark County Skier Prepares for the Winter Olympics

Tay Valley Cross Country Ski Club with Perianne Jones
Tay Valley Cross Country Ski Club with Perianne Jones

Friends and supporters gathered at Baker Bob's in Almonte last Wednesday evening to meet one of Lanark County's two Olympic Winter Games competitors, Olympic Team sprint skier, Perianne Jones. The meet and greet session was well attended and the opportunity was taken by several in the group to present Perianne with donations of support in her effort. Representatives of the Tay Valley Cross Country Ski Club contributed $500.00 on behalf of club members to help defray training expenses.

Perianne had just arrived home the night before from World Cup competition in Europe and was scheduled to resume training after a very brief Christmas break. Her career as a cross country skiing champion began as a three year old Jack Rabbit in Almonte. She says the well known Tay Valley Loppet was her first racing experience, and she would like to enter that event again some time. Her love of the sport and the outdoors, along with the tremendous dedication to excellence that characterizes such competitors have made her a noteworthy member of Canada’s Olympic Team and set her well on the way to success in the 2010 Games.
