Holiday Lights

The bright flickering lights of Christmas decorations shine throughout Lanark County each holiday season, inviting visitors to come be merry and joyful for a while. Jump into the holiday spirit this year with a tour of Lanark County’s most Christmas-y displays and discover what magic the holidays have in store for us this year.

Light Up the Town – Almonte

Due to COVID-19, Almonte had to cancel their annual Light Up the Night this year. Instead, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills turned to the community to Light Up the Town with a Christmas decorating contest on Dec. 6. Experience this town’s magical glow and walk or drive through the neighbourhoods to find your favourite decorations.

Warm up after your adventure at North Market Café or Equator Coffee Roasters, with a cup of something warm and fragrant, then take a wander through downtown Almonte and see for yourself why it’s a favourite spot for filming Hallmark holiday movies.

Magic in Fallbrook – Fallbrook

Every year a few residents of Fallbrook go above and beyond with their holiday decorations and this year is no different. Explore this quaint village that loves to get into the holiday spirit during the month of December.

Afterwards head over to Lanark Village for hot chocolate at The Lanark Landing or stop for a piece of pizza at Lanark Pizzeria. Don’t miss visiting Village Treats to pick up some delicious hand-crafted chocolate for you to gift (or enjoy for yourself).

Festival of Lights – Crystal Palace in Perth

Every December the Crystal Palace in downtown Perth becomes a merry home for community Christmas trees, lit and decorated as part of a community fundraiser. Wander over to the glass structure and view the dozens of brightly lit Christmas trees.

Join in on the celebrations and hang a red ornament on the Community Christmas Tree outside of the Crystal Palace as a thank you to our frontline workers for everything that they do. Warm up with a rich and decadent hot chocolate from Perth Chocolate Works or visit The Stone Cellar if a hot toddy is more your style.

Celebration of Lights – Smiths Falls

Watch as Smiths Falls comes to life at night with thousands of lights at the community’s festive event, the Celebration of Lights. Taking place in Centennial Park, the Celebration of Lights invites you to wander among holiday displays beneath twinkling stars overhead.

After you’ve toured the outdoor lights a hot drink will warm you up from the inside. Stop into Bowie’s for a delicious hot toddy or The Vault for a hot chocolate like you remember from your childhood.

Sophia’s Animated Light Show – Beckwith

Experience Sophia’s Animated Light Show this year in Beckwith at 267 Stonewood Dr., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Take in thousands of holiday lights, Christmas inflatables and more, which all run in sequence to music which onlookers can tune into on their car radio at 88.3 Griswold FM.

After taking in festive the show head to The Good Food Co in Carleton Place for a warm drink and to explore that community’s Christmas decorations.
