It’s so hot in the city! What’s the best way to beat the heat? I think it’s to get away from it to the fresh air of the forest, cool water of the lake and beautiful scenery of farm lands.
We arrive late night when the air is filled with fireflies that sparkle like little starts on the dark background of the trees… I raise my head and… Wow! Who could ever think that there are so many stars, we can even see the Milky Way!
The next day we are just relaxing, spending time enjoying the fresh air and the lake… The evening is quite and the water is like a large mirror!
The cottage we are staying in is on the Long Lake, I guess called so for its shape. As we were told the lake is filled with fish – just have your fishing rods ready! We board a boat with all equipment, but… instead of fishing go for a swim! What a pleasure to feel fresh clean lake water on a hot day!
Late afternoon, after snack and rest it is a better time to go fishing! So again, we get ready and as soon as we board the boat – Anna got the fish! Just put her bait in…

After lunch we stroll the streets in search of things small and wonderful… One of the stops in the antiques shop… The old record player is in great shape!
On the way back to parking we visit the market set up just outside the Stewart Park and browse the tents full of handmade items of all sort – jewelry, dresses, pillows… to all tastes!
Perth Citizens’ Band
The Perth Citizens’ Band is the oldest continuously operating band in Canada. It has been an integral part of the musical and cultural heritage of the Town of Perth since 1852! The free concerts in Stewart Park are performed every other Thursday at 7:30 pm starting in the second week of June through the third week of August.
We really enjoyed this free concert! Fine music and beautiful surrounding of the old park created a great evening atmosphere.
Tea Party at the Mill of Kintail
Organized by Ramsay Women’s Institute Tea on the Lawn at the Mill of Kintail runs during July – August on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2 pm till 4 pm every summer since 1958. The tranquil setting of the Indian River, delicious homemade tea breads, several varieties of tea in fancy bone china cups and cool glasses of lemonade is a tradition worth saving and sharing.
Tea time on the lawn at the Mill of Kintail was planned in advance, so we enjoyed the setting vary much! Tea on the Lawn is a great experience for the younger generations, the atmosphere is amazing, tea breads are mouthwatering and the staff is very kind – which makes the guests very happy!
Port Elmsley Drive-in Theatre
Drive-in movie theatre is just the last thing we visit before going back to the cottage. Port Elmsley Drive-in Theatre is open under the stars since 1953. Located halfway between Perth & Smiths Falls Ontario it is open 7 nights a week for summer, just drive in!
